Terrafirma.eu.com: A pan-European ground hazard information service

Welcome to the home of Terrafirma, an ESA GMES project that aims to provide essential support in the process of risk assessment and mitigation by using the latest technology to measure terrain motion from satellite radar data. The ESA GMES project provides this support to a wide range of entities including: civil protection agencies, disaster management organisations and costal, rail and motorway authorities.

	Mar 2015 Terrafirma was present in the Third International Conference of Remote Sensing and Geoinformation of Environment that took place on 16-19 March 2015 in Paphos, Cyprus. The National Technical University of Athens, user of Terrafirma services, presented “Subsidence mapping, characterization and modelling: the ESA-GMES Terrafirma services” illustrating the use of SAR data for characterising hydrogeological instability events and main activities performed for the management of geo-hazard investigations. Terrafirma examples in two of the most geo-hazard exposed countries in Europe (Italy and Greece) were explained for subsidence mapping (Rome), subsidence monitoring (Gioia Tauro Plain) and subsidence modelling (Kalochori).
	Oct 2014 The Second Terrafirma WAP Workshop took place on 28 and 29 October hosted by ESRIN in Frascati, Italy. The technical advancements for adapting the Wide Area Product to Sentinel-1A data developed during the last stage of the project were presented. This meeting marked the completion of the project after more than a decade supporting the Geohazard Risk Management in Europe by providing terrain motion mapping together with expert interpretation and in-situ data. 	Sep 2014 Sentinel-1A interferograms : Terrafirma partners, Altamira and DLR, have generated interferograms with new satellite Sentinel-1A data. The interferograms have been created with datasets over Napa Valley, California, and the Gulf of Genoa, Italy.
Apr 2014 The First Terrafirma WAP Workshop was held on 31st March – 1st April 2014 in the German Space Agency premises in Oberpfaffenhofen. The latest developments in the WAP processor were presented and discussed. Besides project partners, other European InSAR experts attended the meeting.
